Oceanco to expand yard facilities

8th May 2019

Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has announced that it has invested in its yard infrastructure with the addition of two new build halls to complement its existing facilities. Located in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, the two new halls were previously the property of offshore specialist Hereema and are now being repurposed for luxury yacht work. The first project for the new site is set to commence later in 2019, with a 110-metre hull reportedly due to arrive at the yard in October.

The new site is home to sheds of 204-metres and 132-metres long and will be used to aid Oceanco in their impressive construction offering. Located around six miles from the main Oceanco facility the site will have a particular focus on hull outfitting and any refit and warranty projects. The addition of these new sheds for Oceanco is in keeping with yard’s long term strategy of growth – as demand for Oceanco’s work continues to grow, so the need for increased capacity does too.

Founded in 1987, the primary Oceanco site is located in Alblasserdam in the Netherlands, with the yard acquired by current owner Mohammed Al Barwani in 2010. Oceanco is known for leading the industry with innovative designs and for investing in itself in order to provide a world-class offering. Past investment has included the addition of an impressive 150m dry dock for yachts up to 140m. This new site is in keeping with Oceanco’s strategy to ensure sufficient capacity to meet the increasing demand for its yacht projects.

Over the years Oceanco has delivered an impressive fleet of superyachts, with recent projects including the just-launched 90m DreAMboat, the forward-thinking 109m Bravo Eugenia, award-winning 90m DAR, and the innovative 106.7m S/Y Black Pearl. Oceanco builds have also been in the news lately with the $126 million sale of 91.5m Equanimity (now Tranquillity) by the Malaysian government after the yacht was seized. Tranquillity – which is noted for being the first yacht to be designed and built to the Passenger Yacht Code – is now owned by Genting Malaysia Bhd.
